Ceasefire or Covert Capitulation? Trump Offers Sanctions Relief to Iran and Allows Oil Trade with China in Exchange for a Truce: Diplomatic Surrender?

The war between Iran and Israel, which erupted with fury after a series of attacks on nuclear and military facilities in both countries, has left more than victims, destruction, and fear. It has also exposed a diplomatic move that borders on desperate necessity and geostrategic surrender.
Incumbent President Donald Trump, who unilaterally announced a "total ceasefire" between Iran and Israel, has posted a message on the social network X (formerly Twitter) that reveals the true price of this apparent truce: lifting or easing the economic sanctions imposed on Iran, allowing it to reopen oil trade with China, its largest strategic trading partner.
Trump's post isn't a simple declaration: it's a veiled admission that Washington—or at least its closest political entourage—had to negotiate secretly with Tehran, and quite possibly with Beijing and Moscow, to curb Iranian missiles.
International sources maintain that the pressure of the Iranian attacks on Beersheba and Tel Aviv, along with the moral collapse in certain areas of southern Israel, forced Trump's circle to seek a means of containment. But they didn't do so from a position of strength… they did so by giving in.
Everything indicates that the US government offered Iran the possibility of unfreezing its economy in exchange for silencing its rocket launchers and deactivating Operation True Promise III. This transaction, not formally recorded in any public treaty, is perceived as a "backroom deal," negotiated behind the backs of traditional US allies.
The message is clear: Trump stopped the war... but at a very high geopolitical price. China and Russia, both facing Western hegemony, could have participated as guarantors or mediators of the agreement. Iran wins by partially breaking its economic isolation. China gains access to cheaper crude oil. And Trump... wins a photo opportunity for a ceasefire, just when he needs it most in the face of the 2026 elections.
But at what cost: the US's reputation as a steadfast power? Israel's trust? The credibility of international sanctions?
This isn't simply a ceasefire. It's a desperate gamble, disguised as diplomacy. A backroom deal, a pact with the enemy, a high-risk transaction.
The world has entered an era where sanctions no longer represent power... but rather a bargaining chip.
